Tamilnadu Maritime Academy offers the followings courses:

Ø Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose Ratings.

  • ELIGIBILITY :-Unmarried male and must have passed with aggregate of 40% Marks in 10th Standard/ S.S.L.C or equivalent examinations from Recognized Board with English, Mathematics and Science as subjects with minimum 40% marks in English language either in 10th or 12th or in the Degree/Diploma Courses conducted by Recognized Board.

  • AGE :-Must have completed 17½ Years and should be below 25 Years on the date of commencement of course.Upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

  • COURSE DURATION :- 6 Months (25 Weeks).

  • MEDICAL FITNESS:- Should be medically fit as per M.S (Medical Examination Rules 2000) and medical test/sight test will be conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping approved doctors. Candidates having eyes problems/colour blindness etc. are not eligible for this Course.

  • COURSE FEE:- Rs. 1,50,000/- (including tuition fees, boarding, lodging, uniform, handouts etc.)

  • COURSE COMMENCEMENT:- First working day in the month of January and July every year.

Classess are conducted by vast experienced Senior Master Mariners/Chief Engineers from Merchant Navy, Master Chief Petty Officers/Chief Petty Officers from Indian Navy and supported by highly qualified English, Mathematics and Science Lecturers.

WORKSHOP TRAINING

The academy has obtained the ISO 9001-2008 Certification.

On completion of Pre-Sea General Purpose Rating Course, the trainees have to pass the All India Exit Examination consists of Written, Practical,Oral and Online Examinations, conducted by the Board of Examinations for Seafarers, Mumbai. After passing the All India Exit Examinations the candidate is eligible for obtaining Continuous Discharge Certificate (C.D.C) issued by Shipping Master, Chennai under Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. After obtaining C.D.C, the candidates will be eligible to seek employment in Indian as well as Foreign Going Ships. TNMA has been taking all possible measures to achieve 100% result in the All India Exit Examination concurrently.

In addition to the above course, TNMA conducts the following Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping (STCW) – 2010 Modular Courses for Seafarers. These Courses are conducted once in every month and if required more batches are conducted depends on demand by Seafarers.

The training module fully complies with the STCW Regulations 2010 as well as other requirements of Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.
